New Patients

Upon your initial contact with our office, we need your demographic information, insurance coverage and reason for your visit. Knowing the reason for your visit allows our staff to properly schedule your appointment. Please bring with you any questions or concerns you wish to address, a list of your current medications and any allergies you may have to provide us with an accurate health history for your medical chart. The provider will gladly answer all of your questions at the time of service. We request that you arrive 15 minutes early to complete the necessary patient registration forms. Also, please bring your insurance card(s) and a form of photo identification. Fulfilling these requests allows us to process your new patient chart in a timely manner.

Scheduling Appointments

Patients are seen by appointment. In general, same day and next day appointments can be made available for emergency conditions. Please contact the appropriate office location you wish to schedule an appointment.

Rescheduling Appointments

If you are unable to appear for your scheduled appointment, please contact the office immediately. If we are not provided with sufficient notice, we are unable to fulfill that vacant time slot.

Phone Messages

Our goal is to respond to each patient message as quickly as possible. However, our providers and clinical staff often have a difficult time breaking away from seeing patients. Therefore, after you have left a message, we then review it for its urgency. Most of our incoming telephone call requests are replied to by the end of the same day. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

After Hours

If you have an emergency after hours, please contact the office where you received treatment. Each office has an automated response system. A member of our team will return your call in a timely manner. Please listen to the automated system and follow the prompts.

Medications, Prescriptions & Follow-Up

We ask that you bring all medications (prescription and non-prescription) to each visit. If you require refills, please give us 48 to 72 hours advance notice. If we are contacted directly by your pharmacy, your refill may be processed sooner as we will have received all pertinent information regarding your prescription.

If we have treated your problem within one year and you are receiving a positive result from the use of prescribed medication, we will gladly refill your prescription. If you have not visited our office within one year and are requesting a prescription refill, an office visit is required.

It is important to schedule a follow-up with a provider after the initial diagnosis; as the prescription may/may not be effectively working on the affected area and it is important to record the effect of the therapy in the chart.

Biopsy/Lab Results

If we perform a biopsy and/or laboratory study, we will schedule a return office visit for the removal of sutures and to discuss lab results. All lab results are discussed in the office with a provider.

Primary Care Physician Referrals

Your insurance carrier may require you to provide a referral from your primary care physician before seeing a medical specialist. Referral authorizations may take up to five business days to process. If you are examined prior to us receiving your referral, you will be required to pay for services at the time they are rendered.

Office Hours

Our offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Patients are seen by appointment only. Same day and next day appointments are available for emergency conditions. Our Okatie, SC office, which is a satellite of our Hilton Head office, is open Monday from 1 pm to 5 pm and Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Appointments

To schedule an appointment at any of our four Dermatology Associates locations, please call the appropriate office number. When you call, please be prepared to give your name, demographic information, date of birth and your insurance information. Knowing the reason for your visit will allow our staff to properly schedule your appointment. Please bring your routine questions with you and they will be answered at the time of your appointment. Please bring your insurance card and a form of photo identification (if possible) to each visit and notify us of any changes to your address, phone number and/or insurance information.

If an unexpected circumstance will not allow you to keep your scheduled appointment, please call us to cancel as soon as possible. If you miss an appointment without calling to cancel it, we are unable to serve another patient at that time. Repeatedly missing an appointment can also make it difficult to continue providing the care you deserve.

New Patients

If you are a new patient, please bring your medical history and referral, as well as a list of your current medications and allergies. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the necessary registration information, even if you receive the paperwork via mail in advance.

Messages

Our goal is to quickly respond to each message. However, our providers and clinical staff often have a difficult time breaking away from seeing patients and attending to other responsibilities. Therefore, after you leave a message, we review it for urgency. Most of our incoming telephone calls are answered by the end of the day. Please be patient and understanding.

After Hours

If you have an emergency after hours, please contact the office where you received treatment. Each office has an automated response system. A member of our team will return your call in a timely manner. Please listen to the automated system and follow the prompts.

Medications and Prescriptions

In order to assist your physician, we require new patients and patients with prescriptions to bring all medications (prescription and non-prescription) to each visit.

Please call for a refill at least two to three days in advance. If you need a prescription refilled, it is faster to have your pharmacist contact us, however, it may still take 48 hours to respond to refill requests.

Test Results

If it is necessary for us to perform a biopsy and/or laboratory study, we will schedule you for a return appointment to discuss results.

Referrals

Your insurance plan may require a referral from your primary care physician before making an appointment with a specialty care provider. Referral authorizations may take up to five business days to process. If you are seen without a referral, you are required to pay for services at the time they are rendered.
